Road Blocks
Be prepared for peer assessment to not be fantastic the first few times you use it. Topping (2013) states "students feel uncomfortable criticizing one another's work initially" (p.407). Much like in self-assessment at the beginning students are overly kind in their assessments or what Topping refers to as "friendship marking" (p.407). With practice and repeat exposure students become much more effective in the feedback that they provide one another. This holds true with co-creating rubrics as well. At the start of the year students brainstorm images that might work for the qualifiers. As the year progresses they are able to start verbally providing descriptions of what those qualifiers mean as well as providing their own role plays. |
