It is easy for portfolios to become completely teacher directed. Consider how you will encourage student ownership of the portfolio and student access to the portfolio. Is there a way for students to include learning activities done at home or environments outside of school?
An important component of the learning portfolio that must be considered and planned for is the students' role in collecting the artefacts in the portfolio. How will you ensure student voice is present in the student learning portfolio? What will count and will not count as documentation? What are the qualifiers you will set for inclusion of artefacts? For example: artefact must demonstrate one of the following 1) new skill 2) growth and improvement on a skill previously documented 3) new or higher developed way of thinking about a topic |
